She was throwing a surprise party for her husband, Jorge. Jorge is an avid wine lover, he even has 3 wine refrigerators for his favorites bottles.

She planned a surprise party for him and she wanted to have a cake created that looked identical to his favorite bottle of wine (Grand Vin Chateau Latour). The shape, color, label and all the details had to be exact. This was to be the highlight of the party. She sent us a picture of the label. The wine was a very exclusive and unique french wine, produced in limited quantities.

I used 12 layers of chocolate cake with chocolate truffle filling in between each layer, then convered with chocolate ganache. For the top of the bottle I used modeling chocolate to complete the shape of the bottle. Then, I covered the cake with black fondant and I used burgundy fondant for the top. The label was printed out in edible paper, cheese was made out of rice krispies treats, covered with fondant and airbrushed. The Bottle opener was made out of gum paste and the base was covered with fondant, textured and airbrushed to give that real look of wood.

When Mayu's Cakes delivered the wine bottle cake, Melissa was so impressed with our work and couldn't have been any happier. The following day she emailed us saying that her husband absolutely loved the cake, that he couldn't believe the bottle was the actual cake and the cheese slice was rice krispies cereal inside. Delicious!

Mickey Mouse is one of the favorite character to chose for a theme birthday party. This cake was made for a two year old boy where we recreate the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the bottom tier with his name in the front using gum paste for the letters and some green fondant with grass texture to give them stability. The top tier resambels Mickey mouse short pants and we put some stars on the top along with the number 2 using gum paste for both stars and number.
All figurines are not made out of sugar as per client requests.
The set up of the cake was a little tricky because that day was very humid and the heat was making all decorations starting to melt so we had to add extra support where ever we see it need it. At the end everything was perfect and my client and their guest enjoy a delicious piece of cake!!
The cake flavor was Vanilla cake with dulce de leche filling.

When I saw these little sugar boxes for the first time I just felt in love with them. I started doing a lot of research on how they were made. Once I found out how to make these original party favors, I started selling them to my clients for Weddings, Birthday Parties, First Communions and Baby Showers. Most of the time I integrate the lids design with one on the cake so when we arrange them around the cake they just simply glow and add so much originality to the event that guests will always remember. You can keep your sugar box in a dry place for years and the best part of these sweet favors is that your guests will always remember you and your celebration. Sugar boxes are usually pre-filled with M&Ms, pillow mints, jelly beans or other candy upon request and we have them available online at our Online Shop
Next time you are having a celebration get these unique favors to give away a sweet moment to your guests!!

Well, this weekend one of the birthday cakes that we did was a Wizard of Oz theme cake with Emerald City on top. My client found a similar design on the Internet and since Isabella, the 4 years-old birthday girl was afraid of the witch's legs being smashed by the cake, I suggested that we could have her legs in a less dramatic situation. So I decided to do sort of a chute out of the tin cake which was the bottom tier, and then make the witch look like she fell inside of it. I think it turned out amazing and "Emerald city" on top complemented perfect the theme of the cake!! We poured green Isomalt sugar into the molds that we did using "silicone plastique" which is sold by "make your own molds" and there were three different sizes for the columns.We put a LED light on the back of the city and it looks awesome!!
The bottom tier was marble cake with chocolate ganache and top tier was coconut cake with coconut cream....yummy!!

This week we had a lot of fun cakes to make. Not only because I really enjoy decorating cakes but one of the cakes had an awesome theme.

It was a "groom's cake" in the shape of an airport runway with an airplane on top for one of the "Six Cents Events'" Wedding this weekend.

The story behind this cake was how this wonderful couple met when they were working at Pan Am Airlines. It was long time ago but now that they decided to get married, she wanted to surprise him with this idea of a Groom's Cake. So basically it was a runway, which was the actual cake and we used some lights on the base to simulate the real ones that runways have, and the "Pan Am airplane" on top of the cake with the little heads of the bride and groom sticking out of the cabin window.

The airplane was covered in "fondant" and we use "sugar sheets" made by "Wilton" which I think were great for this project because they are very thin to simulate the airplane's paint. Even we used the "white sugar sheets" and airbrushed them with silver and that worked out perfect for the silver finish of the plane.

The wings had lights too and during the process of doing the plane, my biggest concern was the engines because I knew the wings couldn't hold too much weight. So as I was working on things my husband just came out with this wonderful idea of using "marshmallows", the jumbo ones, as the engines adding a thin piece of "gum paste" for turbines. It was hilarious!!! It looked so real and almost no weight on the wings.

It ended up being the "best groom's cake ever"

The newly weds were incredible happy and one more time we were rewarded with their reaction!! (Priceless)

Congrats to Michelle and Neville on their wedding!! And thanks to Nicole at Six Cents Events for letting us do this cake.

<fill>

Last week I was in Phoenix, Arizona attending one of the Hands-on classes at the World Pastry Championships. Instructors Marina Sousa and James Rosselle were amazing sharing lots of techniques and stories about their business. They were very open to questions and comments among the students which I really like. Personally, I like sharing my knowledge with people who really appreciate my talent, so I'm very thankful with those who do the same with me!! I was so excited to try Marina's beads molds using isomalt and let me tell you that those molds are awesome. I got all three molds the last day of class and I can wait to star using them to do lots of sugar beads to decorate my Cakes . You can purchase Marina's Sugar beads molds at www.makeyourownmolds.com
Another great thing that I really enjoy was watching James doing what he knows to do best: sugar flowers. I was looking forward to meet James again because back in 2007 when I took Colette Peters class at the Notter School of Pastry Art in Orlando, Florida he was a student at the school and I remember how impressed everybody were, including me of course, when he showed us these amazing tulips and orchids that look just like real flowers.
Also I need to tell you about these great supplies that we used during the whole class and help us working on the two projects that we did. Chef Rubber products are so nice to work with, very good quality!!
I really liked trying the luster dust, pearls and some other products that really catched my attention, so........yes, I already placed my order and supplied Mayu's Cakes shop with great decorating stuff.
</fill>
